Arturo Marquez - 'Danzon No. 2'

CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL

La drama! The song contains playful and passionate motifs which translate the "danzón" genre successfully characterized by plenty of tresillos.

The claves in the piece fit perfectly!

Heard this song on KUSC and Googled it to find, of course, a performance conducted by Gustavo Dudamel - one of Los Angeles's greatest musical icons. I also found a performance from one of my favorite conductors Alondra de la Parra, but that is for another time.

Turns out the composer Arturo Marquez worked on this short film which is why I thought it would be a good share.

Andrei Krylov - 'Bessarabia Gypsy Dance'

Traditional Russian Music

Acoustic guitar with increasing tempos.

The wonders of the seven-string Russian guitar.

Sergio Mendes + Brasil 66 - 'Mas Que Nada'

Bossa Nova

"In stereo!" Loving the snapping and sweet accents on the voices. Great piano. Interesting stereo mixing, right?

Paul Desmond - 'O Gato'

Bossa Nova

Great sax and great guitar. The hats get a bit too metallic and high at some point. The whole album is recommended, really.

Hot Club Sandwich - 'Stompin' at Kaos'

Gypsy Jazz

Violin and guitar conversation that is reminiscent of the Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli style. Rapid "la pompe" strumming.

The second track includes velvety vocals. There is also similar guitar/violin call and response format.

From Green Room (2007).
